Developing Higher School Students' Discourse Competence In the Context of the "EAP" Elective Course

Abstract Nowadays reforms in education make it evident that simple language learning is not enough for the ambitious young scientists. This paper is aimed to create an elective course of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for the high school students. Aim of the course is to develop discourse competence and to reduce language barrier in order to improve the quality of the research conducted by the students for an obligatory part of the school programme and various international conferences. The surveys were conducted to support the hypothesis that students need an EAP course. To develop the course a method of content analysis is used in order to choose materials appropriate for the course aims. The EAP course is supposed to be ready to be introduced in school after further development.
