Lexico-Semantic and Pragmatic Features of the Functioning of Anglo-American Borrowings in Modern French Press

Graduation thesis is devoted to the topic “Lexico-semantic and pragmatic features of the functioning of Anglo-American borrowings in modern French media”. It is written by a 4th year student of the National Research University “Higher School of Economics” Vu Thu Cha. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that there is a change of semantic, structural, and more or less morphological meaning and phonetic appearance of loanwords, which causes difficulties while studying French. A number of publications of both foreign and Russian linguists, such as A.M. Bakke (2004), D. Crystal (2003), D. Harris (2010), L. Deroy (1973), D.S. Lotte (1982), I. B. Vorontsova (1986), I. B. Svechina ( 1982), and others are devoted to the problem of anglicisms in French. The purpose of this work is to study lexico-semantic and pragmatic features of the functioning of Anglo-American borrowings in modern French media. To achieve it, it is necessary to analyze the theoretical background of Russian and foreign linguistics and give a lexico-semantic review of Anglo-American publications based on modern French magazines and newspapers for the period 2017–2018, such as “Le Monde”, “Le Figaro”, "Le Parisien", Elle and Cosmopolitan. To achieve the objectives, we have used the method of continuous sampling, methods of semantic and component analysis and a comparative method analysis of the selected material. The work consists of introduction, two chapters, conclusion and a list of references. In the introduction we state the relevance of the selected topic, describe the purpose and objectives of the work. The first chapter lists the most commonly used definitions of the term “borrowing”, the reasons for borrowing and its’ classification, and the views of famous linguists on the problem of anglicisms. The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of English borrowing, causes and types of assimilation and the study of the pragmatic aspect of the functioning of Anglo-American borrowing.
