Today, improving the energy efficiency of the economy is one of the key issues of the world agenda in the context of ensuring the economic growth, preserving the environment and qualitatively reducing energy consumption. As the possibilities of improving the energy efficiency of the economy are exhausted, the world community is faced with the urgent need to introduce fundamentally new measures that will increase the potential for energy efficiency. Such measures include the construction of intelligent power systems that have a significant impact on improving the energy efficiency of the economy. The main objective of this paper is to assess the impact of the intellectualization process of the electric power industry on improving the energy efficiency of the economy. To achieve this goal, the study examines the main trends and problems of increasing the energy efficiency, as well as government measures to stimulate it. In addition, a description of the main areas of intellectualization of the electricity sector, digitalization and decentralization, is given. Then, the impact of these processes on the energy efficiency of the economy is assessed using a regression analysis method, and a comparative analysis of the intellectual energy’s support mechanisms in Russia, USA, Japan and China is carried out.
