This research focuses on the study of the influence of pre-revolutionary historians on scientific activities at the history department of Leningrad State University in 1934-1941. the period from the restoration of higher historical education in universities in 1934 to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in 1941. and the evacuation of the university from Leningrad. The first goal of the study is to single out historians with pre-revolutionary education among the entire teaching staff. The second goal of the study is to study the results of scientific and pedagogical activities of the most important pre-revolutionary faculty historians: Ivan Mikhailovich Grevs, Evgeny Viktorovich Tarle, and Boris Dmitrievich Grekov and their students, which makes it possible to say about the degree of influence of historians of the old school on Russian historical science. The purpose of the study is to assess the role of professors of the “old school” in the scientific and pedagogical heritage of Russian science.
