Transformation of Monetization Models of Russian Business Newspapers’ Online Versions From 2000 to 2018

The research is dedicated to the transformation of monetization models of Russian business newspapers’ online versions between 2000 and 2018 on the examples of the sites of “Vedomosti”, “RBC” and “Kommersant” newspapers. The objective of the research is to identify cause-and-effect relationship in the process of the transformation and to detect the main features of each stage of the transformation. The investigation consists of the analysis of archival versions of the sites and of 11 interviews with experts – representatives of the commercial departments of the newspapers under study. On the basis of the data obtained, four main monetization models were identified. In addition, the transformation process is divided into four stages and the reasons for the changes are considered. Besides, the transformation of each monetization model is analyzed and described. Moreover, the main challenges of the digital environment and experts ' forecasts on the further development of monetization models are described.
