In this research firstly will be examined the women art history in Korea and in Western countries: how did the feminist movement helped it to grow and which art communities fought for the rights of women artists. Also, several women artists, who already gained the popularity in West, and their most well-known works will be studied. There are a lot of researches, dedicated to Korean contemporary art to both its history and popularity, but still there is a lack of studies focused particularly on women artists’ popularity outside the Korea. The study fills the gap, basing on the data from previous works (Jin, 2012: Hwa, 2005; Na, 2006; Karetzky, 2012; Kim, 2013). Previous studies and reviews about artists’ exhibitions will be analyzed as well as artists’ works. As a study result it is expected to figure out the themes that led Korean women artists to such great popularity in Western countries.
