In the modern world, thanks to the results of the economic development of Japan in the 50-70s, the Japanese model of management has one of the leading positions, attracting managers from around the world to study Japanese management methods. However, the question of the applicability of the Japanese management model in other countries remains relevant in the modern business community. Moreover, at the moment there are few studies that analyze the possibility of using the Japanese management model in Russian companies. This paper analyzes and defines the basic principles of the two management models, Japanese and Russian. Based on the historical and cultural background of both countries, as well as management methods used by Russian and Japanese companies, conclusions were presented on the compatibility of the two management systems: in the historical projection, the corporate cultures of Japan and Russia had much in common, but as for the current of development, the Russian society is in a state of constant structural change. By the study of historiography on the topic of the work, it was found out that two approaches were formed among researchers, one of which defines certain tools of Japanese management as applicable in foreign companies. It was also found out that modern Russian management is characterized as fragmented and in need of innovative changes, therefore the relevance of applying Japanese management methods in the Russian business environment has been proven. In the last part of this work, based on the actual experience of using Japanese management tools of Russian companies, the degree of applicability of the Japanese management model in the Russian Federation was assessed. The results of this study confirm that some Japanese management principles are applicable in Russian companies, but only on the condition that it would be understood and adapted to the mentality of Russian workers.
