Creating an Enemy Image in Television Reports

Abstract Despite the proliferation of non-television platforms enabling the viewers to independently select the information they consume, according to FOM , federal television remains the primary and popular source of information for Russians. The current research is mostly focused on discursive practices and strategies used by the Russian TV network to produce the enemy image. We plan to identify the main patterns that the media apply to portray the enemy and analyze the impact of the media on human behavior and attitude toward others. This paper will address the emergence, development, and closure of social conflicts. Special attention will be paid to revealing lexical techniques employed to create the negative image of the enemy on television. The most popular news broadcasters were selected as the object of the study, namely, such channels as Channel One (72%), Russia-1 (57%), NTV (44%), Russia-24 (38%) .
