Intereactive Cinema Phenomenon: Definition, Typology and Development Prospects
The paper focuses on the phenomenon of the interactive film: its definition, characteristics, genesis and embodiment in modern times. Analysis of content and user experience is applied to a selected pool of 60 interactive fiction pieces in order to achieve the main goal of the research which is to develop the system of specific characteristics of the genre. The first part of the work reports the history of the matter, existing properties and typology of interactive storytelling. The second part is dedicated to defining the fundamental features of different hybrid interactive content and developing a methodology to distinguish «interactive movies» from adjacent genre of «dramatic games» and outlining possible prospects of the genre in the frame of the modern entertainment industry. As a result of the proposed research, the typology of interactive content was developed with the definition of the genres of interactive film and dramatic game, as well as several subgenres.
