This paper focuses on the mythical and historical discourse in the mass media coverage of the Civil War in Syria. The conflict in Syria is one of the classic examples of the so called “irregular hybrid conflicts”. What is meant by this is that not only are armed forces involved in it, but also the war is being waged in cyberspace, where propaganda is a key item. The hypothesis of the work is that authorities of the countries involved in the conflict mythologize the war in Syria in media differently to legitimize it and their participation in the conflict. However, not always the conflict participants manage to create convincing and rational form of legitimization. It identifies and describes mythologems that are used by the media of the countries participating in the Syrian conflict to mythologize the war. To achieve that, we used basic scientific methods of research: analysis of content, comparative analysis and semiotic analysis.
