Educational Programme: Transmedia Production in Digital Industries (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2019

Combination of history and visual communication led to a synergistic effect in the form of the concept of public history, which originated in the 1970s in the United States and is still acquiring its theoretical frame in Europe and Russia. Public history provided an opportunity not only to spread historical knowledge to a wide audience, but also to allow it to take an active part in the process. It should be noted that in this phenomenon there are no clearly drawn boundaries, there is no general understanding of what should be used to achieve these goals. The gradation of “historicism” in these events varies from edutainment practice to historical fiction. During the work on master's thesis different interpretations of the term were considered in order to highlight its main characteristics, to compare with related concepts and to find modern practices of using public history in the media space. The practical part analyzes the case of creating a multimedia project for the book by A. Ippolitov “Simply Rome: Italian Images XXI” from the perspective of the subject of study.
