Perception of Security of Personal Data in Social Network: from Indifference to Moral Panic

The paper is devoted to the issues of perception of security of personal data in social network. The purpose of this work is to specify such questions as what personal data for user of sosical network is, how they understand privacy, user’s perception of risks of personal data in social network, and do they know any way to control the security. For this reason, I analyze database involving 17 interviews with users social network from Moscow. The results showed that users understand risks and perceive it as everyday practice, so, as the reaction they apply social options for security in social network. The analysis also demonstrated that users feel uncomfortable because government should have access to personal data of users in social network.
