Today, the TV channels struggle daily for the audience. This necessitates the search for some new approaches to programming the channel. Moreover, the professional community is actively discussing issues of fundamental changes in the content distribution on TV, which aim at attracting and retaining audiences. The goal of this study is to identify the storytelling techniques which could be used in the programming of the popular Russian TV channels “Pervy”, “STS” and “Piatnitsa” in oder to increase efficiency of TV-programming. The issue will be studied through a number of methodological approaches like literary analysis which includes critical overview of the existing research papers; content analysis of selected TV channels for research and structural analysis of broadcasting grids. The research is expected to prove that programming the television broadcasting grids, in addition to channel policy and well-known programming techniques, also incorporates some storytelling techniques (like compositional and dramatic effects). Structurally, the work consists of three main chapters: theoretical and two practical parts. The theoretical chapter establishes and examines the key concepts on which the study is based and examines the existing approaches to the subject of the research on which the scientific hypothesis of the work is based. The practical chapters attempts at confirming or disproving a previously formulated hypothesis on actual cases. Key words: broadcasting grid, elements of broadcasting grid, television programming, TV channel, dramatic techniques, television dramaturgy, broadcasting policy.
