Development of Pupils Cognitive Skills in Primary Schools by Digital Learning Platforms

The relevance of this study has been demonstrated by the rapid growth of the popularity of educational technologies and the use of the most popular format – digital teaching platforms (DLP) - which are inherently subjective to the educational system at the primary school level. This study is located at the intersection of areas – pedagogy, digital technologies and sociology. The key aim of the research is the understanding the potential of usage of digital learning platforms in primary school for the development of cognitive (existential and meta-skills) in Russian context. To reach this goal the three tasks were set: determination of the key problems that parents and teachers encounter in the educational process; verification of the determination “cognitive skills”; identifying formats and attributes that can be used in cognitive skills platforms. For solving the tasks, a review of global development trends in the primary education, an overview of the educational technology market, academic and business sources of information on the development of children's cognitive abilities, an analysis of key government documents and foreign experience of usage DLP were performed. Qualitative methods were chosen for the study: 20 semi- structural interviews with parents and 20 – with teachers, 5 interviews with key experts in the field of school education was conducted in order to prioritize the problems and assess the level of capabilities of the learning platforms.
