Intensive development of information technology has determined the diversity of systems for managing the logistics process. In this regard, many companies face difficulties during the process of warehouse complexes automation. It is important to create recommendations covering the issue of a warehouse management system (WMS) selection and the implementation process itself, which would be useful for companies intending to improve their warehouse operations. The key objectives of the study are to develop requirements for warehouse management systems, identify the relationship between the characteristics of various warehouses and WMS solutions, and develop recommendations for choosing the most appropriate solution. In this paper, the features of different types of warehouses were considered according to several classifications. Based on the analysis of resources on the relevant topics, the characteristics of management systems were described in the context of the functions performed. These characteristics are justified depending on the characteristics of the controlled process in various warehouses. The study described the process of WMS implementation, and the most frequently used WMS were considered. As a result, recommendations on the choice of the most suitable WMS solution were elaborated for various types of warehouses and the average cost of warehouse automation was calculated.
