In 2018, one of the most important parts of the agenda was the issue of personal data protection in relation to the Cambridge Analytica case. It had been discovered that the British firm unlawfully bought the data of 50 milion Facebook users in order to support its client, Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Despite the fact that the firm's impact in Trump's win is questionable, this case triggered a new wave of discussion of personal data protection on social media. This bachelor's thesis inspects the impact of Cambrisge Analytica case on personal data protection policies of Facebook and VK.com. The main hypothesis of the work is that this case triggered changes in those policies of not only Facebook, but also other social media. In the process of research, we consider the definitions of privacy and personal data protection that appear in other researchers' works, as well as the basic European documents on Human Rights: Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and European Convention on Human Rights. In the empirical part of this research, we study the changes that the policies of the named social media underwent to determine whether those changes were implemented as the aftermath of the case.
