The Analysis of Accessibility of Higher Education in Russia: Regional Aspects

The research is dedicated to accessibility of higher education in Russia in the context of the Unified State Exam. The purpose of this research is to examine the most significant barriers to access to higher education in Russia for students from rural and urban areas. Based on the data of the Monitoring of the economics of education and the Monitoring of the quality of admission to universities, conducted by the National Research University Higher School of Economics in the 2017, correlation method was used, and a linear regression was built. As a result of the analysis, it was found out that the most significant factors of accessibility of higher education in Russia are the student’s school performance, family income and type of school. For residents of rural areas, the most significant factors are the gender and the higher education in the mother. The paper formulates ideas for improving the education system in Russia.
