The Impact of School Quality on House Prices

School education is one of the most important social elevators in Russia. This paper examines the relationship between the characteristics of schools and the prices of the surrounding real estate in case of the secondary real estate market in the city of Vladivostok. The paper uses an array of data on announcements of sales of apartments for the 2016-2018 year and information about the performance of schools for the 2017-2018 academic year. We use a “boundary fixed effects” approach to clean up the influence of school education from the influence of other external factors. The division of the sample into one-room and family’s apartments show differences in the effects of school education on price. In addition, the influence of the quality of education on the price of real estate is reveal. This impact accords with the results of numerous researches in this area. These relationships may partly be explained by the population of Vladivostok is ready to pay for high-quality schooling.
