This thesis is a historical analysis of the educational system in Ghana during the colonial and post-colonial era. Providing a broader picture of the situations surrounding the various educational reforms in Ghana from 1874 to the post-colonial era, the study aims at tracing the relationship and interaction that existed between the various governments (both colonial and post-colonial government) and the Catholic missionaries. How their relationships and interactions were affected by the form of educational system and policies adopted for the management of mission schools in the Gold Coast from 1925 to 2017. In sum, the gradual shifting authority and transferal of the right of establishing and managing schools from the missionaries to the government as well as the consequences on the nature of the relationship that existed due to the earlier dependences of the missionaries on the government is what this research seeks to look at.
