The chosen research topic is relevant for modern society, since the role of health capital for the economy of any state is growing every year. Consequently, it is necessary to use it as efficiently as possible. Low life expectancy in Russia can be a consequence of low, declining or negative investments in health capital. The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that the most important cause of negative investments (refusal from sports, poor nutrition and insufficient sleep) in the own capital of the health of young Russians becomes a mass unwillingness to calculate the long-term consequences of their decisions. This reluctance is described with the help of the concept of investment myopia - the exclusion of future results from consideration, starting from a certain threshold point in time. This behavior of people was investigated based on a survey of students with 703 observations at the beginning of 2019 using the construction of three econometric probit-models. The results obtained rather reject our hypothesis, as the effect of lack of faith in the future on lack of sleep, poor quality nutrition and lack of physical activity is very weak. These findings set the stage for further research.
