The problem of the hard security in transatlantic relations is becoming increasingly relevant against the background of the developing crisis in Euro-Atlantic relations, which has been exacerbated by the harsh, unilateral and uncompromising policy of the 45th US President D. Trump towards the European allies, which was caused by his desire to restore the global hegemony of the United States. There are two contradictory trends in the transatlantic relations –the growing distrust of European allies to D. Trump on the one hand and the cohesion among the allies in the sphere of hard security due to the influence of the Russian factor on the other hand. External challenges and threats to Euro-Atlantic security, such as the problem of Iran's nuclear program and the Russian factor, influence on the state and the development of transatlantic relations in different ways. The dissatisfaction of the European allies with D. Trump's policy makes them to consider of that European Union would gain greater independence from the United States in the field of European security. The scholars are developing a discourse about the future of the NATO as a strong military and political security community, which is capable of providing the security of its members. Despite the changing nature of the transatlantic relations, the US and the EU have an interest in maintaining NATO as a strong military and political community at the core of the transatlantic security.
