Lending has historically been the key source of income for most of the banks in the world. However, inaccurate credit risk assessment can cause serious losses and problems with the regulator. In the area of corporate lending, this problem is especially acute because amounts, as well as a degree of complexity of transactions, are much higher than in retail. While conducting the analysis of the credit risk of a corporate borrower, it is important to rely on both general, well-established metrics and methods, and also on specific ones for a particular industry. Large oil and gas companies, as a rule, have the largest amount of limits in banks, and the borrowers themselves are among the most difficult from the point of view of credit analysis. At the same time, their role in the global and domestic economy remains extremely high. The purpose of this work is to create an approach to the analysis and assessment of the creditworthiness of companies in the oil and gas industry, covering a wide range of general and industry factors and its application in the analysis of the creditworthiness of ExxonMobil. The work consists of three chapters. The first chapter includes the theoretical aspects of the analysis and evaluation of the company's creditworthiness. In the second chapter we analyze the features of the oil and gas industry, which should be taken into account in the process of credit analysis of the companies. The third chapter contains a practical application of the approach developed in the previous chapters for analyzing the creditworthiness of ExxonMobil. Keywords: creditworthiness, credit risk, credit analysis, credit risk management, corporate banking
