The accession of Crimea to the Russian Federation was an important historical event that had a significant impact on international politics and economics in our country. The sanctions imposed by important trading partners were first introduced in 2014 and led to a change in the structure of imports as well as to a rapid reduction in foreign direct investment (FDI) entering the country. The problem is still actual today, because last year there was a 14-fold decrease in FDI level compared with 2017. FDI is an important tool for influencing the state, as it can positively affect economic growth, unemployment rates and technology, as well as the performance of recipient companies. According to a number of studies and theories, companies with FDI are more productive than national firms, so it may be difficult for the national firms to compete. The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of reducing FDI on competition between national companies and firms with foreign participation.
