In attempt to deal with a long-lasting stagnation in the economy Japan actively participates in creation of Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP11) Japans had miraculous growth from a feudal country to a world leading force, yet the economy has lost its tempo in the 21st century. Optimal path for development remains unclear and understudied. In order to answer whether liberalization of tariffs is enough this study focuses on researching how Japan’s incentive to take part in the multilateral regional agreement is going to help the economy get out of the stagnation. To achieve our goal in this study we use a number of measures similar to GDP in order to analyze actual impact of Japan’s accession to the CPTPP on the country’s future development. In our analysis we use existing prospects of the effect from tariff elimination as well as political aspects of the agreements. Keywords: Japan, TPP, economy, stagnation, multilateral agreement, economic growth
