European trade policy has always been perceived as having one of the most elaborated and innovative agenda. With the new agreements being negotiated and coming into force (e.g. CETA with Canada, RTAs with Australia and New Zealand), it becomes obvious to the international community that the scope of European trade policy-making goes beyond simple trade regulation through decreasing barriers as well as beyond the existing norms of the World Trade Organization. In this research, we aim to explore the peculiarities of the contemporary European trade policy strategy as well as the reasons behind the existing trend of the EU to negotiate more extensive RTAs.
