The Role of Germany in Shaping and Implementing the Energy Policy of the European Union at the Current Stage

The present study evaluates the integrated contribution and role of Germany in shaping and implementing the EU energy policy. The author considers the main directions of the EU energy policy and its specifics. Special attention is paid to the factors that determine the significant role of Germany in shaping and implementing the EU energy policy. In addition, the paper analyzes the importance of Germany for the normalization of Russian-European energy relations. As a result, it has been found that Germany does make a tangible impact on the process of shaping and implementing the EU energy policy, but this impact is quite ambivalent due to the priority of national interests of Germany.
