The main issue of the research is that companies’ goals to save a competitive advantage cannot be achieved by the usage of traditional models, forecasts, and resources, it is necessary to reveal main factors that may determine their market behavior. In this case operators, infrastructure companies, and vendors would know how to achieve a desirable market position. Nevertheless, there can be different business models that depend on factors that still are not clarified. Based on this, the creation of business models’ typology becomes important for practical and research reasons. The theoretical basis for the study is working in the field of development of the telecommunications (research articles, reports), 5G projects (projects of IT and tech-companies) and the theory of business models (Osterwalder, Pigneur & al. 2010). The study was conducted using various models of management, that allow to assess the external environment, count market values and understand the nature of competition but also to conduct a full competitive analysis. Combining different models, a new map that can reflect all the important trends, local competitors and players from other markets, challenges, and objectives, can be created. This allowed identifying factors for the typology. The work is a research of the Russian market of telecommunications. To achieve the main goal, several basic methods are supposed to be used: 1) analysis of theoretical and empirical works on the 3/4/5G deployment, business models creation and alteration; 2) analysis of external documentation and reports of all the main participants; 3) collection, systematization, and analysis of empirical data for further processing and presentation in the form of a model. As a result, the typology was developed, all the features of transformation were identified, and recommendations were given.
