The market of voluntary medical insurance in Russia is currently very actively developing. This feature of voluntary medical insurance is influenced the fact that in an attempt to attract large customers, insurance companies try to offer rather low rates from those that are optimal in terms of loss. The aim of the paper is to calculate the unprofitability of the insurance portfolio of voluntary medical insurance, since this type of insurance has its own characteristics, different from other types of insurance.
