Friar Laurent's treatise on vices and virtues, which was written in Old French in 1279 by the order of the French King Philip III , went down in history as the "Somme le roi». It has been preserved in more than a hundred manuscripts of the end of XIII - XV centuries, which indicates its exceptional popularity. This treatise of the Dominican and the royal confessor of friar Laurent serves as a unique work in many respects: above all, it is the monument of the close interaction of Latin and folk languages, as well as a culture of a word and image. Apparently, in accordance with Philipp’s IA treatise on the sins and virtues of Brother Laurent, which was written in Old French in 1279 by the order of the French King Philip III , went down in history as the "The Royal Amount" ("Somme le roi»). It has been preserved in more than a hundred manuscripts of the end of XIII - XV centuries, which indicates its exceptional popularity. This treatise of the Dominican and the royal confessor of brother Laurent serves as a unique work in many respects: above all all, it is the monument of the close interaction of Latin and folk languages, as well as a culture of a word and image. Apparently, in accordance with Philipp’s IV order, special iconography was created for the manuscript in the middle of 1290-s. It consisted of 15 miniatures of the corresponding textual tradition, until the end of its existence. To this day, four illuminated manuscripts from 1290-s have survived - and they form the cradle of this tradition, the study of which is the purpose of this research.
