Peculiar Features of Biathlon Terminology Translation from English into Russian

This study is aimed at investigating distinctive features of sports terminology and its translation from English language into Russian based on the case of biathlon. The relevance of this work is determined by the constant development and growing popularity of the field of sport, in particular by the means of holding international competitions. The object of this research are the texts of various genres on sport topic and their translated versions into Russian. The subject of the research are the peculiarities of biathlon terminology translation in official and publicistic types of texts. The study consists of two chapters. The first chapter covers such provisions of general translation theory, as the representativeness and adequacy of the translation and translation transformations; reveals the concepts of term and terminology, discusses the peculiarities of sport terminology, and provides the classification of biathlon terminology. The second chapter examines the features of sports discourse, stylistic features of official and publicistic texts, as well as providing the analysis of translation strategies in sports regulations and articles of journal and Internet types. The results obtained during the research showed the variability of translation strategies with regard to the sport terminology, depending on the genre and stylistic features of the texts, as well as the necessity for further research in relation to sport translation and drawing attention to the field of sports in general.
