Chemical Laboratory for iOS Devices Based on Augmented Reality Technology

Chemistry is a scientific subject based on the world of atoms, which cannot be considered by human eye, has a data visualization problem for demonstration molecules' structure and reactions performing. At the moment, the abundance and availability of mobile devices in conjunction with their high performance, can change traditional approaches to the study of natural science, through the introduction of modern technologies to the learning processes of people. Augmented reality, the idea of which is to combine the virtual and physical world together, provides new opportunities to solve the problem of data visualization and underdeveloped spatial thinking. This work focuses on the existing fundamental approaches to modeling three-dimensional objects, as well as their projection into the real world, using augmented reality technology and the power of mobile devices on the iOS operating system. Moreover, the paper discusses the choice of mobile application architecture that allows you to easily scale the available functionality of the program without changing the existing code base. The resulting software product provides an opportunity to recognize pre-encoded images of chemical elements, to see their three-dimensional model and to conduct a limited set of predefined chemical reactions between them. The paper contains 50 pages, 3 chapters, 32 illustrations, 6 tables and 20 bibliography items.
