The work is focused on researching the level of poverty in the countries of the world. The issues covered by the study include: factor analysis of social and economic indices by country of the world; development of own poverty index; analysis of poverty dynamics in the Russian Federation in the period from 1990 to 2017; study of the impact of political, geographical, environmental and cultural factors on the poverty level; classification of regions by the level of economic efficiency and modeling of the real regional poverty line. The analysis included the ARIMA model, the Classic linear regression model and the System of externally unrelated equations, as well as the methods of main components and linear programming. According to the results of the study, the same high predictive power was established for models based on economic factors and for models without their inclusion. The impact of a country's geographical location on its poverty level was found to be significant, but not major. The application of the single global poverty line was noted as unrepresentative.
