Statistical Analysis of Adolescents Obesity and Overweight in Russia

Rapid increasing of overweight and obesity rates among adolescents is a serious problem that has reached epidemic proportions in many developing and developed countries. Therefore, it is important to take into consideration a wide range of factors in assessing the reasons of trends in rates of overweight and obesity. The study is aimed at identifying the relationships between the prevalence of adolescent overweight in Russia and the conditions of life, including physical, social and economic environments. The regression and cointegration methods were used to define links between socioeconomic factors and weight status of adolescents. Based on microdata from the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey for the years 1996-2017, an empirical analysis of adolescent’s obesity and pre-obesity in Russia were conducted. Results confirm a strong connection between weight status and age, urban, mothers’ factors. Overweight is also associated with sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet.
