The Impact of Scientific and Technological Development on the M&A Intensity of High-Tech Companies From Developed Capital Markets

Nowadays mergers and acquisitions are becoming a popular management decision for corporate development and one of the most important ways for external growth. In the research the author analyzes the relationship between M&A intensity and scientific and technological development. The sample is presented by high-tech companies from the countries-members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, explored period from 2013 to 2017. In this study regression model based on the panel data analysis was built and key factors affecting the M&A intensity of high-tech companies were determined: gross domestic expenditure on R&D, charges for the use of intellectual property (payments), patent applications of nonresidents.
