Special Aspects of Translating in Sports Sector: the Case of Figure Skating

Recently sport sphere has been rapidly developing. Numerous competitions are held every month all over the world and, moreover, are widely covered in the media. Furthermore, a certain turn of documentation which, in most cases, initially is issued in a foreign language, exists in each sport. However, translation and interpretation in the sport sector possess some unique peculiarities which should be clearly examined. The first and primary aim of this paper is to determine main peculiarities of written documents and media articles translation in the case of figure skating. Moreover, in this study different classifications of the terminology is investigated for revealing their pros and cons and suggesting a better one. Furthermore, one of the major goals of this study is to develop the terminological glossary in the figure skating sphere for simplifying the process of translation. The comparative-contrastive analysis is used to investigate special aspects of translating in sport sector on the case of figure skating. The results received shows that the main type of information in documents is cognitive. However magazine articles contains several types of information: cognitive, emotional and even sometimes aesthetic. The results reveal that the translation difficulties will occur on the lexical and syntactic levels in both types of text. For example, terminology possesses the main translation difficulty on the lexical level in documents. In articles the main difficulty occurs on the syntactic level with translation of emotional type of information. This study will contribute to the existing knowledge of translation in sport sector and may be of use to translators and interpreters.
