Student: Lvova Viktoriya

Supervisor: Elena Kitaeva

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2019

The purpose of the project is to create an online resource about opera, designed for an audience rather not familiar with this art. The website will be an encyclopedia of opera with a significant amount of animated content that will help user to study components that opera consist of (by reading interesting articles supplemented with animated illustrations) and to get acquainted with the plots of famous operas of the past and present (by watching short cartoons which will be video versions of their librettos). Extensive use of video design will make this educational process interesting and easy. Thus, the opera will no longer seem to user something outdated and absurd. The expected outcome of the functioning of the website is to direct attention of modern viewer and listener to this beautiful art. One of the stages of work on the project was the visual research of the history of opera posters on the example of works for the operas of one composer - Giuseppe Verdi. I explored a whole collection of posters from different times to understand the process of interaction between graphic design and opera and to get inspired before creating of animated content of my website. Here you can read the concept of this visual research.
