The success of organizations could be determined by a number of factors. One of them is intellectual capital, which has acquired special importance because intangible assets are the most valuable resources of the company. The literature notes that the prosperity of small business depends on constantly developing intellectual capital. Intellectual capital consists of three elements: human, structural and relation capital. These elements are closely related and therefore have a direct and indirect impact on business performance. There have been a small number of researches of the issue of indirect effects of intellectual capital elements on business performance. This study attempted to fill these gaps. A used sample consists of 141 small companies of the Perm region. The data were provided by the International Laboratory of Intangible Assets. The method of PLS-SEM was used to reveal significant influence between intellectual capital elements and business performance. In addition, it was found that only relation capital has a direct impact on business performance, but also it is affected by human and structural capital. Human capital is a key element of intellectual capital and has the greatest indirect impact on business performance. In the future the results would allow to develop a strategy for investing in intangible resources to increase the value of the company.
