Global digitalisation trend in society is bringing us to a new business environment with fast-changing consumer needs. Companies adjust their business models to open-innovation to improve their competitive positions, deploying the business model of digital platforms. These new types of companies require new management mechanisms and instruments since traditional methods are not appropriate anymore. Members of the academic community stated not once that the management aspects of the platform businesses were understudied so far, and particularly in the case of innovation platforms. This evident gap has stimulated the research motivation and shaped the primary research purpose of this work. The current research is seeking further understanding of governance mechanisms in innovation platform businesses. Consequently, the present work claims to address this challenge, resulting in the main objective of the research – to disclose the governance mechanisms applied today within digital innovation platforms. The chosen qualitative research method helped to answer the research questions. One of the specific techniques used in this work is documentary research. Throughout the study, the research depicted the current market situation by describing the key players and governance mechanisms in digital platforms. Knowledge about the management of digital innovation platforms is valuable for all members of the ecosystem. Also, the new approach to the analysis of the topic was proposed. The framework for the innovation platform governance analysis was developed and is considered to be valuable as a new way of research on platform governance mechanisms.
