The Impact of Spatial Effects on Regional Development
This paper examines the influence of spatial effects on regional development. The study was carried out for the regions of the Russian Federation from 2005 to 2015. To answer the research question posed econometric analysis methods were used, which included the calculation of the Moran's index to confirm the presence of spatial effects for the regions of Russia, as well as the construction of regression equations. Regression equations were constructed using the spatial auto-regression model (SAR) in the STATA statistical package. The research was carried out taking into account two types of weighing matrices: the matrix of the presence of boundaries and the matrix of inverse distances. Calculations were carried out both in all regions of Russia, and separately for Western and Eastern regions. The results of the study are evidence of the presence of spatial effects for the regions of Russia, as well as the detection of their differences for the Western and Eastern regions. In addition, as a result of the study, it was found that for Russia as a whole and for the Western regions when analyzing regional development using spatial effects, it is better to use the inverse distance matrix.
