In the 20th century, cultural notions about the family, roles within households, models of socio-economic behavior of men and women were significantly transformed. The transition from patriarchal to egalitarian gender order implies gender equality both in the family and in the public space, based on equal rights and opportunities for life (including career) choices for both men and women. However, despite the significant expansion of the repertoire of women’s biographical choices and trajectories and the fact that a substantial part of them enter the labor market, some women decide to be implemented within the family by becoming housewives. The main focus of this final qualifying work is life projects and biographical narratives of housewives in modern Russia. Based on 15 in-depth interviews with housewives, three types of life projects were distinguished: "housewives by choice", "must-be housewives" and "non-working mothers", also key elements of biographical narratives were described.
