The automotive industry in the Russian Federation has always been one of the key branches of engineering in general. Despite the stereotype about the quality of Russian cars that has taken root in society, it is this industry that remains at the same positions due to the fact that the current socio-economic structure of the country requires a large number of automotive vehicles. The large distances between settlements a priori create an additional load on the infrastructure. At the same time, it is obvious that modern automobile manufacturing enterprises of the country, despite their significance and obvious successes, cannot fully satisfy its needs. And at the level of individual enterprises, and at the level of the entire industry, raising the competitiveness of the automotive industry is a priority task of the state industrial policy. The relevance of this work is determined by the fact that GAZ PJSC is one of the key enterprises of the Russian automotive industry. At the same time, this company is experiencing systematic difficulties in raising its level of competitiveness, and the solution to this problem is of great importance. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that its results can be used to solve specific problems of the development of GAZ PJSC, to strengthen the company's position in the country's automotive market. The theoretical significance of the work is determined by the fact that as a result of the development of this problem, a modern vision of the concept of competitiveness, its specificity in the automotive industry was developed. The purpose of this work is to show the patterns of formation of competitiveness of the automotive industry by the example of GAZ.
