Game for Designers

Student: Schegolyutina Darya

Supervisor: Pavel Borisovsky

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2019

The result of this diploma project is a creation of a board game for designers, which includes a box, playing field, cards, chips and additional attributes to make the game more dynamic and fun. The goal of this game is to pass all the tests and raise your level of creative skills, to become a perfect designer. To develop this project, the author needed to analyze what the term “perfect human” generally means and how it can be applied to the board game. In a visual study "Ubermensch. The Image of the Superman in the XIX-XX Centuries," the author familiarized himself with the biographies of such famous people with superpowers as Nikola Tesla, Grigory Rasputin, Wolf Messing, Wang, Harry Houdini, Seko Asahara and many others. Among them there were great scientists, mediums, creators of cults, illusionists, travellers. The main thing for the author was to highlight their common similarities. The author came to the conclusion that these are the main characteristics: abstract thinking, stress resistance, self-confidence, good communication skills. All these features are easily applicable to the field of design, where people must competently communicate with customers, be prepared for stressful situations in which it is important to quickly switch from task to task, as well as have a good imagination and a wide "background" to give things new values and look for non-standard solutions for problems (identity, logos, design of books and magazines, posters, and so on). Gaming experience can be applied to develop these skills. The game "Perfect Designer" is designed for several players who, in teamwork, will overcome obstacles and improve their imagination. There are also many references to ridiculous situations and problems that everyone faces in the design sphere. This project can be a good addition to the basic university program in the design field. To conclude, everyone can become a perfect designer if they work on their own development.
