Applied Social Psychology
(Master’s programme)
2019
This work is intended to reveal relation between electoral behavior, absenteeism and personal human values. In particular, the current research tests the hypothesis that values of voters and absentees are different, and three groups of absentees have different value preferences. First group is consisted from people, who do not vote because they are fine with present incumbents. Second one is formed by people, who find government not effective, but non-participation is a way of protest expression. Last group presents people, who do not interested in political participation and in elections in particular.

The consideration of values will explain motivation of people for non-participation and show possible relation between values and political activity. The discrepancies between basic values of absentees allow to show sophisticated structure of phenomenon and demonstrate lacunae in existing political environment and structure.

The results obtained could be applied broadly in political management, electoral campaigning, political psychology et cetera.
