Statistical Analysis of the Socio-Economic Factors that Influence Life Satisfaction in Russia

Life satisfaction certainly remains one of the primary social indicators of the quality of life. Today, regular observation and measurement of society's life satisfaction is extremely necessary and actuall. First of all, such activities allow to control and regulate social inequality, which means a significant difference in the level of well-being among citizens, which is extremely important for the prevention of social tension in the country. The identification of the dependence of life satisfaction on the socio-economic factors under which a person lives in Russia can undoubtedly be served as a driver for improving people’s well-being and quality of life in the country as a whole. This study is devoted to the study of this problem. The first Chapter presents various types of interpretation of the concept of life satisfaction, its factors and econometric methods of its measurement, which were analyzed from the studies of Russian and foreign authors. The second Chapter contains information about the official databases-questionnaires with estimates of life satisfaction in the countries around the world, the ranking of countries on the studied indicator, the dynamics of the social well-being indices of Russians. The third Chapter provides a preliminary statistical analysis of the life satisfaction factors, the construction of an econometric model of life satisfaction in Russia, where probit, logit and OLS model are compared. Also there were marginal effects calculated and cross-variables included.
