Regional Differences in the Trends of Marriage in Russia for the Period 1990-2015

Master's thesis is devoted to the regional peculiarities of marriage in Russia and their changes since the mid-1990s. The study focuses on the identification of historical, cultural and society-economic factors explaining the formation and change of regional diversity of marriage. The main sources of factors evaluation are the Agency "RIA Rating" regions ratings of the of media group MIA "Russia today", marriage data of the all-Russian population censuses in 2002, 2010 and micro-Censuses in 1994 and 2015, and the data of current accounting of marriages. The first Chapter describes the main foreign and domestic approaches to the study of marriage in the modern world, as well as the features of the long-term evolution and the latest changes in the model of marriage in Russia in comparison with European countries. Various scientific methods of demographic and sociological analysis of the study of marriage were also considered. The second Chapter analysed the existing system of statistics on the marital status of the population. In the third Chapter, the stability of the strength and direction of correlation dependences over time (for the periods between censuses) is tested, and the differences in the nature of the relationships between the results obtained on the basis of the analysis of marriage parameters and potential factors affecting them using different ratings are investigated. This research work is important for its scientific and practical significance: the available census statistics were analyzed; the main regularities of the regional diversity of the marital status of the population in Russia, as well as their changes during the first stage of the second demographic transition (since the mid-1990s) associated with the transformation of the age model of marriage; included in the analysis are the data of micro-records of 2015, regional data of current registration of marriages, as well as the analysis of a possible Association of regional diversity of marriage parameters with historical,cultural and socio-economic indicators of the regions of the level of the Russian Federation.
