The Motif of Obsession in N. Hawthorne’s "The Scarlet Letter" and H. Melville’s "Moby-Dick, or The Whale"

The current research attempts to analyse the motif of obsession in two key American novels "The Scarlet Letter" by N. Hawthorne and "Moby Dick" by H. Melville based on B.M. Gasparov's motif analysis. Special attention is paid to the personal and literary interaction between the authors.
