This paper is devoted to the analysis of modern Russian and European legislation in the field of personal data protection, as well as the development of methods for optimizing the processing of personal data in modern organizations. The proposed methodology is based on building an automated model based on Microsoft Excel, the purpose of which is to help processing companies (in the case considered, the real company's personnel department) to conduct their own internal audit to optimize the collection of personal data of employees, based on expert assessments of company representatives and the development of automated recommendations for the further processing of each type of data. As an object, to implement this methodology, a large international company was taken, which has a branch in Russia and processes the personal data of citizens of various countries, including citizens of the European Union and the Russian Federation.
