The Master's thesis includes the study of economic losses due to premature mortality from external causes. On the basis of state statistics and the use of the indicator PYLL («Potential Years of Life Lost»), the lost years of human life as a result of death up to 70 years were calculated. The methodology also allowed to convert the wasted man-years in economic terms (GDP). The work includes an analysis of Russia and its regions. For comparison purposes, premature mortality and economic losses for circulatory and neoplastic diseases were also considered. The results of the thesis confirm the need for a change in the approach to external causes and the implementation of programs to reduce mortality from this class.
