Performance of Grocery Retail Companies: Application of DEA and Comparable Analysis

This paper analyzes the efficiency of grocery retail companies from six countries using data envelopment analysis based on mathematical programming methods and using comparative analysis using ratios calculated on the basis of operational and financial indicators of companies. The aim of the work is to identify grocery retail companies with maximum efficiency and compare the two approaches to its evaluation. This paper provides an overview of investment banks' industrial reports on the Russian grocery retail market in order to understand the main indicators of the presented sector of the economy. Also, the paper analyzes the main articles on each of the methods for the accumulation of the theoretical base and further conduct of their research. To achieve this goal, hypotheses were put forward and tested using two presented methods. Performance indicators were obtained using DEA for all sample companies and a comparative analysis was carried out using five groups of ratios.
