According to the theory of offensive realism, the United States, being the only regional hegemon in the world, seeks to prevent the emergence of another hegemon in any region of the world. China, building up its potential and real power since the collapse of the bipolar international system, has become a potential hegemon in East Asia. Due to the fact that in this region there was no state or allaince capable of containing China, the United States put forward the concept of the Indo-Pacific region, trying to incorporate India to balance China. The thesis analyzes the US policy and strategy toward China from the Bush administration to Trump. Also it gives a forecast of a future response of the United States to the growth of China in the framework of the theory of offensive realism.
